The cleaning and polishing of the tooth surface with an Ultrasonic scaler refers to as Scaling.
Recommended every 6 months (in some cases 8months – 1year ) to remove the hard deposits and stains on the tooth surface.
Negligence in cleaning can lead to gum diseases ( Gingivitis and Periodontitis ) and untimely mobility in the teeth.
Any decayed/carious tooth needs treatment. Depending on the type of cavity, the type of fillings differs.
The filling process involves drilling or removing the decayed part of the tooth. The hollowed part after drilling is filled with filling material (GIC, Composite, Miracle mix etc. ).
Restoring the decayed tooth in time is necessary to avoid more extensive procedures like Root canal treatments or Extractions.
Pre-op X rays help to determine the depth of the cavity, to fill the tooth.
A decayed or fractured tooth requires a root canal treatment when the depth of the cavity has surpassed the first 2 layers of the tooth. i.e enamel and dentin and has entered the 3rd layer, which is the Pulp.
The pulp chamber and the root canals contain the blood vessels, nerve tissue and lymphatics of the tooth structure.
Root canal treatment requires Local Anesthesia. It involves drilling into the tooth structure to reach the pulp chamber, cleaning and preparing the canals, shaping them and finally fill and seal them up. The process is generally completed in 1 or multiple appointments, depending on the case.
Post root canal, the tooth is sealed with permanent cement and restored with a Crown.
Any Root canal treated or Fractured tooth needs a crown/cap
Crowns either provide structural integrity and strength to the tooth structure or esthetics. Depending on the material, the crowns can be Metal, Metal Ceramic, Zirconia, Lava etc.
The process involves preparing the tooth from all sides to make space for the crown to be seated. We send the crowns to the Laboratory. The laboratory makes and sends the crowns back to the clinician for cementation.
The crowns must imitate the natural crown anatomy as much as possible. Checking of both esthetics and function before cementation of a crown is a must
Bridges are artificial replacements of a missing tooth by drawing support from the adjacent teeth.
The bridges involve grinding/preparing 1 or more teeth on either side of the missing tooth/ teeth.
Measurements are sent to the laboratory for fabrication of the bridge.
The fabricated unit is then adjusted and cemented in the patient’s mouth to replace the missing tooth/teeth. The material for the bridge varies.
The implant is an artificial prosthesis placed in the jaw bone to replace the root structure of a missing tooth.
Over an extension of the Implant, a Crown or a Bridge is placed to replace the missing tooth. The process involves drilling into the jaw bone under Local Anesthesia. And then inserting a titanium screw into the bone (area of the missing tooth). Post that, we leave the screw inside, for the bone to form around the implant (osseointegration). Once the Implant is firm in the bone, we place an extension (abutment) on the implant and take measurements for the crown.
After fabrication in the laboratory, the crown is finally cemented on the abutment to complete the process.
An implant is a very successful mode of treatment in today’s times. It is the best long term solution to the problem of a missing tooth.
It is important to judge which cases are apt for Implant. Examining the medical condition of the patient, the oral hygiene, bone height, bone width is important before placing an Implant.
Dentures are the removal prosthesis to replace missing teeth. It can replace 1 or multiple missing teeth in a single denture. Depending on the number of teeth, dentures can be either Partial or Complete.
Partial dentures consist of a Plate in which the missing teeth are embedded in fabrication. Complete dentures involve the replacement of all teeth in a single arch. Dentures are made up of different materials and by different techniques.
All dentures need removal at night to give rest to the soft tissue, on which they rest. Cleaning and maintaining a Denture also plays an important role in the longevity of the denture.
Extraction is the process of removal of a tooth from the socket under Local Anesthesia.
We extract decayed teeth which are beyond repair or mobile tooth hampering function. A retained milk tooth beyond its time period. An oddly placed Wisdom tooth.
Orthodontic treatment can also demand the extraction of certain teeth to create space for alignment of the teeth. All extractions need an X-ray of the concerned tooth. Extractions can be simple or surgical. Surgical extraction are extraction that requires drilling a part of the bone or sectioning the tooth structure.
Impacted wisdom teeth mostly require Surgical extractions. We prescribe pre and post medication ( antibiotics and analgesics) depending on the medical condition of the patient and complexity of the case.
Any disease affecting the gum, bone and tissues surrounding the tooth requires intervention. We plan surgical procedures depending on the stage of the disease, to strengthen the support around the tooth.
We perform a periodontal surgery to treat untimely mobility in teeth, gum recession, bone loss , gum pockets, gum enlargements, gum pigmentation.
Home care and maintenance play a pivotal role in the healing and results of these surgeries. Early intervention is the key to avoiding extensive surgical procedures. Regular scaling is the basic thing to start with.
Bleaching is the procedure to whiten the tooth structure.
It involves the application of a chemical in cycles to achieve the desired results.
Bleaching is an esthetic dental treatment. It lightens the shade of the tooth. It is important to know that Bleaching is not a permanent treatment.
Over a period of time, depending on the eating habits, oral hygiene measures, the tooth colour tends to come back to it’s original shade. The effects can last between 6 months to 1.5 years. Different systems are available in the market for this process.
There are Chairside kits and Home kits available. Home kits require Bleaching trays to be fabricated. Dentists use Chair side kits.
Orthodontic treatment is the way to align your teeth by the use of Braces, wires and elastics.
Ortho treatment should be ideally done in the growing years when the growth of the jaw and teeth can be regulated and redirected. We also perform ortho treatment at all ages if the bone and gum support is in healthy condition.
You should assess the condition at the earliest. The time duration required for the treatment varies between 1 -1.5 years. Complex cases can take up to 2 years as well.
You need to visit the orthodontist monthly for adjustments. Post the treatment, You have to wear a Retainers period of 6 months -1 year, depending on the case. Avoid Relapse by wearing retainers regularly.
Clear aligners are an alternate way to align your teeth (the other being Braces).
These are sets of clear transparent plates which are worn for a period of 20-22 hours to bring about the desired change.
They are extremely comfortable, easy to wear and aestheticaly pleasing.
We assess the case by using x rays, pictures, scans. We create models and send them to the Laboratory for fabricating the aligners. The complexity of the case determines the number of sets of aligners and the time required for the completion of the case.
Night grinding or Bruxism is the unintentional grinding of upper and lower teeth resulting in attrition / wearing out of the tooth structure.
It can lead to sensitivity in the teeth, pain in the jaw muscles, and pain in the TMJ.
Night guards are soft transparent plates worn by the patient at night to prevent the upper and lower teeth from coming in contact with each other and hence minimize the damage to the teeth. It also relieves the pressure on the TMJ and jaw muscles and hence provides relief to the patient.
Smile designing as the name indicates is an esthetic procedure done to beautify your smile.
It revolves around beautifying the upper and lower front teeth (visible in the smile line). It can involve correcting the alignment, reshaping, recontouring, changing the color of the tooth or gum resulting in a perfect smile.
It requires a good assessment and planning of the case. Various specialists may need to consult to get the desired results. It can require braces or aligners, crowns or veneers, bleaching or depigmentation.
End results are extremely pleasing both for the patient and the doctor
